Delta 8 THC – What Is It?

You if you are like a lot of people, when you hear “THC,” you think of one specific type of THC: Delta 9. Most are surprised to learn that THC is not a single compound – instead, it is a “family group” of different compounds, which are called analogs. Each analog of THC is different in its atomic structure, and those differences are very important because they influence how the body interacts with the ingredient as well as its legal status.

The commonly referenced Delta 9 THC is the substance that is frequently associated with the use of marijuana, as Delta 9 can produce mind-altering side effects or the feeling of being “high” that one experiences after consuming it. Considered the analog with the most controversial reputation, Delta 9 is celebrated for the benefits it offers by some and scrutinized for its side effects by others. Because of its psychoactive effects, Delta 9 is considered a controlled substance. Wellness products on the market today must contain no more than .3% Delta 9 THC in order to comply with the law.

Delta 8 is different. As another unique analog of THC, Delta 8 is significantly less psychoactive and overwhelmingly more wellness-evoking – and this unbelievable compound is taking the wellness market by storm.

Until recently, Delta 8 was not receiving the attention it deserves because it has been challenging to yield high amounts of it. Because scientists had a hard time acquiring it, they couldn’t conduct much research to learn its benefits. Recent scientific breakthroughs have changed that, and early research suggests that Delta 8 is the potent wellness ingredient of the future!

Is Delta 8 Legal?

Because Delta 8 is often confused with the psychoactive Delta 9, consumers are sometimes unsure about its legal status.

When you shop at Leaves of Eden CBD, a Premier Hemp & CBD Dispensary, everything we offer and research is 100% legal and compliant with federal law. According to the law (The Farm Bill of 2018) all derivatives of hemp containing no more than .3% Delta 9 THC are completely legal in the United States. Derivatives of marijuana, hemp’s cousin plant, are not legal. You can rest assured that it was derived from hemp and contains no more than .3% Delta 9 THC. Please review the supplied COA’s (Certificate of Analysis – Third party Lab Reports)

If you are new to Delta 8 THC edibles, we recommend starting with a dose of 10mg and increasing the dose as needed, in 5mg increments. Unlike when THC is inhaled through smoking and vaping, THC that is taken orally must travel through the digestive tract. At the end of the digestive process, the THC is partially metabolized by the liver and is then absorbed into the bloodstream, which carries the THC to the brain. This process is slower than smoking or vaping THC, which is why it takes longer for you to feel the effects. However, the results tend to last much longer than when smoking or vaping THC.

Current studies have shown that ingesting THC creates a much more intense experience for the user when compared to inhaling it. One theory that is backed by some research suggests that, as the digestive tract processes the THC, the metabolic enzymes break down and modify the THC molecules. In the case of the THC found in our edibles, the result is that the Delta 8 THC is broken down into a new THC molecule called 11-hydroxy-Delta 8-THC. This new molecule is more potent than the average Delta 8 THC molecule, and this 11-OH-Δ8-THC molecule is what is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Because of the increased psychoactive effect of the 11-OH-Δ8-THC that results from our Delta 8 THC edibles’ ingestion, we recommend that new users only take one-third of the gummy or other edible to start. Give it a few hours to take effect, and see how long the results last. Please do not take any more for the first few hours, as the first dose’s full results may not have reached their maximum effect. Once you do a couple of test runs, if you feel that you need a more robust experience, increase the dosage by another third and see how your body handles it. Repeat these steps until you reach your desired results.

The Difference in the Way Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC Make You Feel. Delta 8 THC is molecularly different from Delta 9 THC. You may also understand that there is a difference in the way they affect the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain. However, you may be curious as to how Delta 8 makes you feel in comparison to Delta 9 especially if you are interested in the benefits of Delta 9 THC without the drawbacks. The good news is Delta 8 THC may be exactly what you’re looking for.
